Odisha girl becomes India’s youngest chess coach

ଓଡିଆ ଝିଅ କ୍ୟାଣ୍ଡିଡେଟ୍‌ ମାଷ୍ଟର (ସିଏମ୍‌)ଅପରାଜିତା ଗୋଛିକାର ଏସିଆନ ୟୁଥ୍‌ ଚାମ୍ପିୟନସିପ ପାଇଁ ଭାରତୀୟ ଜାତୀୟ ଟିମର କୋଚ୍‌ ଭାବେ ନିଯୁକ୍ତି ପାଇଛନ୍ତି । ଉଜ୍‌ବେକିସ୍ତାନର ତାସକେଣ୍ଟ୍‌ ଠାରେ ଆସନ୍ତା ମାର୍ଚ୍ଚ ୩୧ରୁ ଏପ୍ରିଲ୍‌ ୧୦ତାରିଖ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ ଏହିପ୍ରତିଯୋଗିତା ଅନୁଷ୍ଠିତ ହେବ। ଯେଉଁଥିରେ ୮ରୁ ୧୮ ବର୍ଷ ବୟସର ପ୍ରତିଯଯୋଗୀମାନେ ଅଶଂଗ୍ରହଣ କରିବେ । ଭାରତୀୟ କୋଚ୍‌ ଭାବେ ସବୁଠୁ କମ ବୟସରେ ଅପରାଜିତା ଏହି କୃତିତ୍ୱ ଅର୍ଜନ କରିଛନ୍ତି ।

It is indeed a proud moment for the people of Odisha as chess star Aparajita Gochhikar has earned the distinction of becoming India’s youngest national coach to represent the country in Asian Youth Chess Championship-2017.

Candidate Master (CM) and National Instructor (NI) title holder Aparajita will be coaching the team picked up for the world event to be held at Tashkent, Uzbekistan from March 30 to April 10, a letter by Sports Authority of India (SAI) said.

“I received a communication from Government of India. I am elated that I am the first girl from the state and India to get such honour. I will be coaching chess participants representing India in the age group of 8 to 18,” Aparajita Gochhikar told OST.

“I will try my very best to bring laurel for the state and country” she added while thanking All India Chess Federation (AICF).

Notably, the Uzbekistan Chess Federation (UCF) is organising the Asian Youth Chess Championship and Asian Youth Rapid and Blitz Championships.

The 24-year-old from Puri has bagged many national and international titles. Earlier, she had bagged silver and bronze medals in open category in World Amateur Chess Championship-2016 at Halkidiki, Greece. Besides, she has also won silver medat at Commonwealth Chess Championship for two consecutive years in 2012 and 2013 at Chennai and Port Elizabeth, South Africa respectively.

She earned the Candidate Master (CM) title last year from FIDE (World Chess Federation).

Aparajita is an alumnus of city-based KIIT University. Currently, she is associated wiith KIIT Chess Academy for development of the sport in Odisha. Dr. Achyuta Samanta, founder, KIIT & KISS congratulated her for the rare feat and wished her for bright future.
