Refunds For Railway Bookings Above Rs 10,000 Won’t Be Made In Cash!

When PM Modi announced the ban on Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, there was heavy rush at Petrol pumps, railway booking counters and also at hospitals. This is because currency was considered valid in these places till 11th of November. This is because emergencies could arise anytime at such places and hence, the notes weren’t banned here. It seems people started misusing this opportunity and were standing in long lines to get some change. Moreover, people used another smart trick too!

Well, railway bookings witnessed a 1000% rise in booking for AC class tickets. This was after PM Modi said that notes would be accepted at airports and railway stations across India. As soon as this announcement was made, there was a huge rise in the AC-I class ticket bookings on 9th and 10th of November. People knew that if they had Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, they could book tickets at railway counters and then they can cancel it. After cancellations, they were supposed to get valid currency i.e. new notes of Rs 500 and Rs 2000.

This service was being misused by many black money holders. They booked long distance tickets to Jammu, Kerala etc so as to utilize maximum possible invalid currency! People even did RAC and waiting class bookings, strange!

Modi’s new Googly!

Seeing these bulk purchases, the Railway Board issued a circular yesterday! Now, as per the circular, people who have booked tickets above Rs. 10000, won’t get over-the-counter cash refund. Yes, people who have booked tickets below Rs. 10,000 are eligible for the cash refund, but those who have booked above the limit will have to file a TDR i.e. a Ticket Deposit Receipt. They will now get the refund through Cheques or bank transfer. This is again a big problem for them, since they can’t show so much cash in bank accounts, as they will be questioned by the Tax department.

This rule was introduced after railway officials had a doubt that these bookings have been made by people who hold black money and want to convert it into valid currency.

We love you PM Modi; you are trying every possible way to catch hold of black money holders! What’s your take on this guys? Do share your views in our comments section below.
