JAISALMER: In a bid to make a village open defecation free and encourage people to use toilets, Barmer district Collector, Sudhir Sharma has come up with an extremely innovative move. He is decided to offer money to people who would not defecate in the open and use the toilet instead.
The scheme is in accordance with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swacch Bharat Abhiyan. The scheme has currently been launched in two panchayats, one of them being Baytu and the other one is Gida. According to a Times of India report, Sharma confirmed of undertaking this scheme while asserting that it was being done to stop the habit of open defecation and develop a practice of using toilets.
The report further stated that the eight families were given a cheque of Rs 2500 during the launch of the campaign which is being done by Cairn India in collaboration with Rural Development Organisation (RDO) and district. Furthermore, a team specially set up for this scheme will even keep a check on the people who received the money to ensure that were using the toilets after they were constructed for usage.
