In a bid to ease the cash shortage arising out of the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs1,000 notes, the government on Thursday allowed the withdrawal of cash of up to a limit of Rs 2,000 by swiping debit cards at select petrol pumps from Friday. The facility will be available at 2,500 petrol pumps from today. “It has been decided that an amount up to Rs 2,000 per day per person in cash can be dispensed against swiping of debit card from select petrol pumps where point of sale (PoS) machines of SBI are already available,” an official said. PoS machines are the machines which are generally used for debit or credit card transactions. However, due to lack of awareness, people in the city have been demanding money from all petrol pumps. On the other hand, the pump owners also say they have not been instructed about the latest development and they will have to wait till they get proper orders.
