The Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre 1985-batch IPS officer from Odisha has been appointed as the CP after outgoing chief Alok Verma was appointed as the CBI chief few days ago.
Notably, after the appointment of current Delhi Police commissioner Alok Verma as CBI chief, Patnaik along with Deepak Mishra and Dharmendra Kumar were the top contenders for the post.
Patnaik was serving as the Special Commissioner (General Administration) in Delhi Police.
He is also first Odia IPS who appointed as Delhi Commissioner.
