Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik to undergo liver transplantation in US, to be away from office for 4 months


Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is set to leave for Michigan, US for liver transplantation as he has been suffering from chronic grade 4 liver cirrhosis for the past few years.

According to sources, Patnaik has an extensive habit of drinking alcohol which apparently led to the chronic disease and he was under the consultation of very well known senior Gastroenterologists for the past few years. Now, the Odisha CM has taken the call by deciding to go for a treatment in Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak in Michigan.

Sources in Beaumont hospital, which is reportedly #1 hospital for Gastroenterology and GI surgery, have confirmed the report. Naveen Patnaik will be under the guidance of well-reputed Gastroenterologists and another senior doctor who is of Indian origin.

A 10-member team from Odisha, which includes some State Administrative officers along with 2 high profile Gastroenterologist, one his personal doctor from Odisha and another Gastroenterologist from Delhi, will be accompanying the CM, according to Embassy of India, US.

Patnaik will be leaving for Michigan by 5th of March and will be taking 3 to 4 months complete rest post surgery before he comes back to India by the end of April.

Meanwhile, sources said an internal tussle is underway in Patnaik’s Biju Janata Dal (BJD)  as to who will be the interim CM while he is away for about 4 months for treatment.
